Internship Program combining Berkeley High School Students and the Seniors of Berkeley:
During the current school year, Berkeley High School students have been paired with seniors for oral history interviewing and taping. Several oral histories were developed in this effort, with two currently shown on the Berkeley Historical Society website: one for Eleanor Walden and the other for Ruth Hayashi, representing Berkeley social activists and the Japanese-American experience in Berkeley.
Plans to Transcribe Older Berkeley Co-op Audiotaped Interviews:
Professor Greg Patmore, a Visiting Professor from the University of Sydney, Australia, has been visiting the Berkeley Historical Society for several years now, to pursue his research on the Consumers Cooperative of Berkeley. When he returns again this summer, he plans to take five complete sets of Berkeley Co-op oral history tapes, in CD format, back to Sydney for transcription there. We look forward to seeing the results. Professor Patmore's research will be used in his forthcoming book about the Berkeley Co-op.
